Following the story of Pott's low money circumstance, which is explored in the film, the children end up in Coggin's garage where a broken and destroyed Chitty Chitty Bang Bang lays. After winning 3 Grand Prix's she is no longer polished and strong as she once was.

Jeremy and Jemima still see huge potential in this fantastic vehicle, and is eager for their father to purchase it, but broke Mr Pott's has very little hope that he can grant his children this wish. After a failed attempt at earning some money with his renowned Toot Sweets, Pott's searches for other ways to purchase Chitty, restore her and beat the Vulgarians - all with Truly, Grandpa and the children by his side.
